Job Description
This position is for a Software Engineer, in databases, to build and support repositories that store quantitative market statistics and market forecast data and to support the applications used to model, capture, manipulate the database content. The responsibilities of this position will involve:
Designing databases to solve complex problems
Understanding of data modeling concepts such as the proper roles of conceptual, logical and physical data models
Assist in designing logical and physical database schemas
Competent in T-SQL, SQL or PL/SQL, knowledge of XML
Contributing to the construction of and maintenance of extract/transform/load (ETL) processes
Able to produce reports and views based on multiple queries
May create data layer for applications using data transfer objects and data access objects in C# or VB/VB.NET
Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server including query plan optimization
Knowledge of data architecture concepts such as OLTP and OLAP systems, multi-dimensional databases, operational data stores, data warehouses, data marts, staging databases and data servicing layers
Performs database maintenance activities such as tuning, optimization, capacity management and security administration
Creates stored procedures and database triggers
Develops programs for data cleansing, data checking, and error prevention.
Create, maintain, and present technical documentation (such as E/R diagrams) to different audiences and levels
Job Requirements
REQUIRED SKILLS:
0-3+ years of Microsoft SQL Server analysis, design, construction, testing and deployment
0-1+ years Microsoft Analysis Services 2005 (SSAS), MDX, stored procedures, views, Microsoft Integration Services 2005 (SSIS)
1+ year Database design (logical/physical)
Database security/authentication
0-1+ years Extract/Transform/Load (ETL) processes
0-1+ years Data warehousing, multidimensional concepts and business intelligence tools
Performance tuning and optimization
Capacity planning and optimization
Competency in written, oral and interpersonal skills
Willing to travel as needed
Willing to work nights and weekends in support of application deliverables/timelines
Be able to accurately provided work estimates and deliver projects on schedule
Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Candidates should have familiarity with data warehousing and business intelligence development practices and/or project experience in these disciplines
Candidates should have prior experience through all phases of the system and application development life cycle
DESIRED SKILLS:
Experience with SQL Server SQL, Stored procedures, XML
Experience with other OLAP engines such as Microsoft Analysis Services or Hyperion Essbase
Functional knowledge of MDX is desired
Experience in .NET technology a plus (C#, ASP.NET, or other .NET languages)
