Primary Function:
The individual in this classification must be able to perform skilled level electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade. Assignments are received in the form of oral instruction, sketches, blueprints and/or worn or broken parts. Work methods and procedures are determined by the employee and are performed independently or under the general supervision of an electrical engineer or maintenance supervisor. All work is subject to inspection upon completion for quality and conformity with applicable requirements. The individual must also have ability to perform minor and miscellaneous work outside the realms of the electrical trade. The individual will be expected to have basic knowledge of the machinist and plumbing trades.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
 
  • Installs, alters, maintains and repairs electrical wiring systems and equipment, both high and low voltage
  • Maintains and repairs equipment used in 24-hour operations
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality service
  • Able to perform miscellaneous work and tasks of other skilled trades (i.e. machinist, plumbing)
  • Troubleshooting abilities
 
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Needed:
 
  • Knowledge of the following:
    • Electrical construction and maintenance, including installation of all sizes of electrical conduit, cables, wires, switches, automatic starting equipment
    • The tools, materials, methods and standard practices of the electrical trade
    • The hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade
    • NEC
    • Application of photo eyes, proximity switches, PLC I/O,  used on manufacturing assembly equipment
    • 3-phase wire applications
    • AC and DC motors, starters and drives
  • Ability to:
    • Distinguish between the full range of colors in the color spectrum to work with electrical wires
    • Use graphic instructions such as blueprints, sketches, models or other visual aids
    • Work at heights greater than ten feet
    • Learn job-related material primarily through oral instruction and observation. This learning takes place mainly in an on-the-job setting
    • Work cooperatively with others  skilled, non-skilled union personnel, engineering and supervision
    • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
    • Observe, monitor or compare data to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards
 
Education & Experience Required:
 
  • E1 or E2 License
